Colin Tommis: Biography
Colin started his career working with the Ian Campbell Folk Group then moved to Wales to study composition with William Mathias at the University of Wales. He is now a session musician, chairman of the European Guitar Teachers Association (EGTA U.K.,) and founder of the Anglesey Guitar Ensemble. He is also a composer and works closely with the National Youth Guitar Ensemble of Great Britain. His song writing has brought him to the attention of succesful and famous performers and he has worked alongside some of the most prominent musicians in the country.
His own ensemble has twice won the National Guitar Orchestra Competition and has appearded on the BBC television programme Blue Peter, (the only guitar ensemble to ever receive this accolade). Colin's music has been performed in all corners of the world from Australia, to Scandinavia, Canada and Argentina. The National Youth Guitar Ensemble of Great Britain, the Sante Fe Guitar Quartet, Giulio Tampalini, Antonio de Innocentis, Carl Herring and Craig Ogden are some of the artists who have performed his music. Jonathan Richards has recorded it for Mosaic Records. Colin holds a 1st prize in a major UK national guitar composition competition.
Colin is an adjudicator and is working in 2010 with a panel of judges for the Singapore National Youth Festival. He also sits on audition panels for the National Youth Guitar Ensemble of Great Britain and adjudicates local music festivals and school competitions.
He is now working with the artist and writer Joyce Fleur. Together they have created The Pink Feather, which is currently being performed in schools and festivals. He also writes alongside David Qualey and they have been exploring some music for guitar duo.
